Power industry pays more attention to energy saving and emission reduction

These two factors determine that China's power industry must pay more attention to energy conservation and environmental protection.


Lu Yanchang introduced at the "2007 China Electrical Engineering Society Annual Meeting" that closed on November 20 that the power industry is solving the energy saving and environmental protection problems of coal-fired power generation through theoretical research and engineering practice.

Information from the State Electricity Regulatory Commission shows that in the first nine months of this year, the country's raw coal output was 1.43 billion tons, of which 62% was consumed. Last year, the country emitted 25.888 million tons of sulfur dioxide, of which electricity emissions accounted for 52%. The energy saving and emission reduction of electric power is of great significance to the realization of the national energy saving and emission reduction target.

Yu Chongde, deputy general manager of China Guodian Corporation, believes that the most important thing to realize energy conservation and emission reduction of coal-fired power generation is to adjust the structure. That is to change the structure of thermal power generating units, the use of large units, the elimination of small units.

Relevant information shows that in recent years, in the field of power generation, after the 2 × 1 million kW ultra-supercritical unit of Huaneng Group Yuhuan Power Plant was put into operation, the 2 × 1 million kW unit of Huadian Group Zouxian has been put into commercial operation. The 600000 kW ultra-supercritical unit is in good condition after being put into operation. Both the 300000-kilowatt large-scale circulating fluidized bed unit introduction demonstration project and the localization support project have accumulated useful experience; the research and application of the main and auxiliary equipment of the water-saving large-capacity unit have made great progress, and a number of 600000-kilowatt air-cooling units have been put into operation. Breakthroughs have also been made in the construction of 600000-kilowatt ultra-supercritical air-cooling units.

The use of large-capacity high-parameter units means energy saving and emission reduction in the field of power generation. Qin Dingguo, general manager of Shenhua Guohua Electric Power Branch, said that due to the use of large-capacity and high-parameter units, the company's coal consumption for power generation in the first half of this year has reached 323g/kWh, close to the international advanced level. Emission targets have fallen considerably.

According to relevant departments, my country's power energy conservation and emission reduction will also be achieved through the vigorous development of hydropower, nuclear power, and renewable energy power generation.

At present, China has formulated a nuclear power development plan by 2020, and has selected 13 sites with a total nuclear power construction capacity of 23 million kilowatts. In terms of hydropower, following the construction of the Three Gorges Power Station, Xiaowan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba and other southwest large hydropower stations and the Laxiwa Hydropower Station on the upper reaches of the Yellow River have started construction one after another. The development of large-scale hydropower units with a capacity of more than 700000 kilowatts, the cooling method of the generator and the research on the outgoing line voltage are being carried out. In the field of new energy and renewable energy, a number of 100000-kilowatt wind farms have been put into operation; megawatt wind turbines have been successfully developed. The scale of research and engineering construction of solar energy, photothermal power generation and biomass power generation technologies continues to expand.

In the field of power grids, some technologies aimed at reducing long-distance transmission line losses are being developed and tested and demonstrated. State Grid Corporation Northwest Power Grid 750 kV transmission and transformation demonstration project completed and after more than a year of commercial operation performance is good. The ± 800 kV DC transmission projects from Yunnan Xiaowan to Guangdong of China Southern Power Grid Corporation and from Xiangjiaba to Shanghai of State Grid Corporation of China have all started.

According to the introduction of relevant people from the electricity Regulatory Commission, according to the data of 2006, if the coal consumption of power supply reaches the international advanced level, 89.82 million tons of standard coal can be saved; if the auxiliary power consumption rate reaches the international advanced level, 62 billion kwh of electricity can be saved, which is equivalent to 19.84 million tons of standard coal; if the line loss rate reaches the international advanced level, 100.2 billion kwh of electricity can be saved, which is equivalent to 32.07 million tons of standard coal. The total of the above three items can save 0.141 billion tons of standard coal every year. While saving energy, it can also reduce sulfur dioxide by 2.82 million tons and carbon dioxide by 0.362 billion tons.
